Wisconsin Community Banker
January/February 2014
Magazine Redesign Supports Multiple
Association Goals
When you opened this issue of your maga-
zine, you may have noticed a few changes. To
better serve its readers, we’ve redesigned your
association’s premier publication. These changes
begin on the cover, where we’ve simplified and
shortened the magazine name from “Wisconsin
Community Banking News” to “Wisconsin Com-
munity Banker.” We’ve also expanded both the
quantity and quality of pages within this publica-
tion, which remains the only print (and online)
magazine that focuses exclusively on community
banking in the Badger State.
You may have noted that this “President’s
Column,” has been renamed to “Serving You.” At
CBW we have one mission, serving Wisconsin
community banks. I consider it a distinct honor
and privilege to serve the Wisconsin community
banking industry and the many outstanding
individuals employed at community banks. My
objective in naming my column “Serving You”
is to share what CBW is doing every day in our
advocacy, education, and other association ser-
vices to serve you and our members’ interests.
One goal of this redesign is to present more
visually interesting content, with added white
space, more prominent “pull quotes,” a clearer
table of contents, and other graphic changes
intended to make each issue more inviting and
easier to read.
This redesign also provides added space to
share the most significant industry news about
legislative and compliance issues, technology
developments, security risks, and bank updates
from across the state. Thanks to your interest, as
well as ongoing support from our corporate and
associate members and other advertisers, this
redesign allows us to present more information
in a more attractive format with a few extra pages
added to each issue.
In addition to these layout and graphic design
improvements, we’ve enhanced this publication’s
online format, making the magazine as easy to
read from the Community Bankers of Wisconsin
(CBW) website as turning the pages of an actual
issue in your hand. When each issue arrives, we
hope that you will invite your
directors and staff to read selected
articles online—the new website
version is intended to be easier to
share and more inviting to read
than a photocopy or routed issue
flagged with sticky notes.
Finally, this redesign better
reflects our strong relationship with Independent
Community Bankers of America (ICBA), by
more closely corresponding to the overall design
and format of IB (Independent Banker) maga-
zine. Still, our redesign does not simply duplicate
that of our national association. Our magazine
will continue to speak with a voice as indepen-
dent as the voice of the people and community
banks of Wisconsin.
As 2014 rolls forward, we plan to add more
images and continue to tweak this redesign.
