Wisconsin Community Banker
July/August 2014
Chairman’s View
by Stan Leedle, CBW Chairman
Count the Opportunities: A National
Petition, Training, Conference and Expo
In our current
Federal
environment
of extreme regulation, garnering support for
community banking may at first seem unlikely.
Yet CBW offers many pathways to fairness for
our industry.
Like every issue, this July/August magazine
contains proof of our industry’s success in the
stories of members who have provided economic
development and outreach to their communi-
ties. This issue also highlights the progress of
our association’s leadership development efforts
through the BOLT Summer Summit (page 8),
and CBW President and CEO Daryll Lund
presents an update of recent advocacy successes
(page 6).
In addition, this issue calls attention to the
opportunities presented by CBW’s new Leader-
ship Development for Community Bankers pro-
gram (page 41) and our September 2014 Manage-
ment Conference and Expo (pages 10 and 12).
Thanks to CBW’s partnership with ICBA, Wis-
consin community bankers have an opportunity
to impact national issues. CBW and ICBA are
calling on community bankers to sign a petition
for call report relief. The call report has grown to
nearly 700 pages of instructions and 80 pages of
forms. ICBA’s petition advocates for a short-form
call report that would be filed only twice yearly.
I urge you to sign this important petition posted
at
. Streamlined call report require-
ments would greatly improve our member banks’
abilities to serve our customers and develop the
economies of Wisconsin communities. I also
encourage you to invite your employees, direc-
tors, and customers to sign the petition. You
might consider posting it on your website, on
social media, and in your lobbies.
We all have a general sense of where Wiscon-
sin community banks are making an impact, but
CBW has created a new map (page 14) showing
exactly the number of community banks head-
quartered in each county. Your customers, as well
as directors, may find it interesting.
Through your support, CBW
has emboldened and directed its
voice this year, to better reach the
ears of policymakers, as well as
people in our home communi-
ties. I’m happy to have been a
part of your association’s progress
this past year. Thank you for the
incredible opportunity to serve as your CBW
chairman. It has allowed me to see firsthand our
industry’s advocacy efforts and to learn many
of the ways that our member banks are making
their communities better places to live and grow.
It’s hard to believe that CBW’s 2014 Manage-
ment Conference and Expo is only a few weeks
away! I look forward to seeing you next month at
the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. This
is yet another opportunity to learn from each
other and from compliance, financial, legal, and
technology experts, while moving our industry
forward.
